1963年オランダ出身。STOAS University of Applied Sciences（農業分野での教員を育成する高等専門大学）に進学し、国家ライセンスを取得。祖国オランダをはじめ、ベルギー、フランスで経験をつんだ後、1994年にオランダスタイルのフラワーデザイン学校の講師として招致され来日し、以後5年にわたり教鞭をとる。2003年に再来日。翌年、日本で行われたダニエル・オストのインスタレーションをきっかけに第一園芸に入社。デザインルーツでもある、ベネルクスの構築的なデザインから受けたインスピレーションと、その中から見い出した独自の日本的かつ繊細な表現は、その豊富なアイディアと精巧な技術の高さも相まって、どのようなロケーションにおいても、唯一無二の空間演出を可能にしている。

Born in Holland in 1963. Maas studied at STOAS University of Applied Sciences and obtained a national florist licence. He built his experience in flower design in his homeland Holland, as well as in Belgium and France. He first came to Japan in 1994 when he received an invitation from a Dutch-style flower design school in Japan, where he taught for five years. Maas later joined Daiichi-Engei Co., Ltd in 2004 after Daniel Ost’s installation in Japan. His wealth of ideas, exquisite technique, and style – a combination of his inspiration from Beneluxian designs and delicate Japanese elements – enables him to create unique works in any location.
